About Ms. Dakota

Hunter College, NYC.
She has a coffee in hand, no surprise there.

Welcome! Thank you kindly for visiting.

I am a current graduate student and soon to be elementary education teacher. I was born and raised in NYC, where I received my BA in English Lit and creative writing from CUNY Hunter College. In my early 20’s, I moved to South Carolina upon joining the United States Coast Guard. When I am not writing, I can be found exercising, running, reading, or spending time with friends and family. I am also a mixed martial artist, a 2nd degree black belt in the Korean art of Tae Kwon-Do, which I have been doing since the age of four. I am happily engaged and have 3 wonderful dogs.

Why Do I Write?

Writing is my way of healing. It helps me to find peace. I publish short stories, poetry, writing tips, and some other thoughts of mine.

Current Works In Progress

I am currently juggling two works in progress which are a piece of fiction, dedicated to the memory of my grandmother who had a grueling battle with Alzheimer’s, and a possible children’s book.

Through this blog I hope to:

  • Release some of my unpublished work into the world.
  • Provide fellow writers with helpful and essential tips needed when writing. These posts can be found HERE.
  • Connect with others in the writing community.

I am always looking to connect with fellow creatives. Feel free to subscribe below to receive my posts directly to your email. If you want to see more of my work, connect with me on social media. I can be found on twitter: @msdakotawrites. Thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you come along for this journey!
